PREPARED TO BE A UVANGELIST

If someone in an elevator asked you, “Unitarian Universalism? What’s that?”, what would you tell him in 30 seconds or less?

Seven members of CUUF thought about it and sent in their entries to the Elevator Speech Contest. The entries, writers’ names omitted, were judged independently by Phil Venditti (communications expert), LeRoy Farmer (founding member of CUUF), and Jessica Manzaro (chair of CUUF’s Communication Committee).

The winner is Rita Salama. Second place went to Erik Dilling, third place to Sharon Page, and honorable mention to Chris Rader. Below is the winning entry. Feel free to use this elevator speech or write one of your own.

Unitarian Universalism is a religion without a creed made up of people who have different beliefs but who are unified by their values— each person is precious; every person has the right to seek their own spiritual path; we treat each other with fairness, compassion, and justice; we respect and care for this small planet in space that we all share; and we hold a vision of a world community wrapped in love and peace.

Thank you to all who submitted entries and to our esteemed judges.

Look for more elevator speeches in upcoming CUUF Links.

DONATING TO NWPR?

DOUBLE YOUR MONEY & SPREAD THE WORD

In March we asked people who were contributing to NWPR to consider routing their donations through CUUF in order to purchase ads. And you did!

We have collected $1010 since March. Added to a previous balance of $367, we now have a grand total of $1377. The CUUF board of trustees budgeted matching funds up to $750 for the ad campaign. That means a total of $2127 for radio advertising!

Thank you for contributing to CUUF and NWPR.

Listen for our ads!

CALLING ALL HUMANISTS

A strong and persistent influence within the ranks of Unitarians is "Humanism" which is closely associated with "Atheism" and is a working paradigm useful to "Agnostics" such as myself. I would like to strengthen these roots in CUUF and our community. Several members/individuals have indicated their interest and willingness to meet as a group to discuss these issues. If you would be interested in joining us, call me at 665-5977. —John Crew
