Our Minister...
The Rev. Cecilia Kingman serves us part-time, preaching twice a month, providing pastoral care and supporting our staff and church leadership. An award-winning preacher, she says she went into the ministry because, "As a Unitarian Universalist, I believe that God's love embraces all people, and I wanted to help spread that transformative love in service to others."
Rev. Cecilia believes that for us to have spiritual depth, our lives must be grounded in prayer and service. She tries to live by the teachings of Jesus, in particular his message of God's all inclusive love and his instructions to care for the poor and vulnerable. Rev. Cecilia also embraces the truths of the world's great religions, including Buddhism, Islam and Judaism. These teachings are woven through her sermons, as well as the latest in sociology, psychology, economics and other disciplines. A great lover of poetry, Rev. Cecilia includes readings from different cultures each week. "I am interested in the soul, and what connects our souls to the source of all life," she says.
Rev. Cecilia grew up in Montana and is engaged in issues of sustainable living and the challenges of agricultural communities. She spent part of her seminary training living among the Unitarians of Transylvania, in northern Romania, and served for eight years on the board of Project Harvest Hope, a non-profit providing assistance for sustainable rural development in the Unitarian homelands. Every year Rev. Cecilia leads pilgrimages to Transylvania for North American Unitarian Universalists. Rev. Cecilia is a graduate of Starr King School for the Ministry, a member school of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Prior to coming to CUUF, Rev. Cecilia served congregations in California, Oregon and Washington. She is active in our denomination as a leader in church fundraising and coordinates a program to support seminarians at Seattle University.
Rev. Cecilia is the mother of two children, Isaac, age 18, and India, age 17, and the devoted servant to two cats. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her significant other, Alan, and his son, as well as reading, watching movies, making crafts, and delighting in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
