A Note About Forums - 5/11/08 (Mothers’ Day) Great Spirit: Native American Spirituality
Forum Etiquette
It has come to the attention of the Sunday Services Committee, that the Forums have been very well attended over the past few months. YEAH! The Forums are an integral part of UU Fellowship life, especially CUUF. In an attempt to fully explore Forum topics, we've heard and observed that sometimes the Forums run over and interfere with preparations for the regular service. Two things we can do to help facilitate ending on time (that would be 10 am) are: 1) Start Promptly at 9 AM and 2) have everyone attending arrive prior to 9 am to get their coffee, check in with friends etc. This will reduce time spent in reshaping or expanding the seating circle. Thanks for your cooperation.
9:00 am Forum: A Covenant Group Experience
CUUF leader Pat Brooke
Our Covenant Groups are growing! If you’re not part of one, come get a taste of this unique experience of genuinely listening to others and speaking from the heart. You just may want to sign up for a group afterwards. Current members of groups are also welcome.
10:30 am Service: This I Believe
CUUF speakers
A CUUF perennial favorite! Three members of CUUF will share what they currently believe interwoven with the personal stories of their religious and spiritual journeys.
9:00 am: Newcomers’ Breakfast
Hosted by: The Newcomer Care Committee
If you are new to our services and would like to know more about CUUF, join us for a continental breakfast. It will allow you to meet other newcomers and get acquainted with long time members. We have the breakfast every 2nd Sunday of the month, so if you can’t make this month’s, feel welcome to attend the next one. Any questions, please call LeRoy Farmer 663-7257 or Dick Murphy 884-9514.
10:30 am Service: Great Spirit: Native American Spirituality

Tim Brooks will share his perspective on Native American spirituality: different customs or tools are used from tribe to tribe to connect with a higher power but the spirit is the same.
9:00 am Forum: The Soul and Roles
Guest leader Rev. Dr. Silvia Behrend
How do we as Unitarian Universalists take care of our souls? This forum examines soul development in relationship to the roles we play in our lives.
10:30 am Service: Where Angels Fear to Tread
Guest speaker Rev. Dr. Silvia Behrend
“Where angels fear to tread” asks the question, “Where would we be without fools to lead us astray?” A look at some Unitarian Universalist fools.
(Please note the earlier starting time of the forum.)
8:30 am Forum: Living Wisdom and Compassion Every Day
Guest leaders Rev. Genjo Marinello & Lama Padma
Lama Padma met with the Dalai Lama on April 11 and was inspired by the experience to present a teaching on compassion in everyday life. This has been Genjo's focus recently, as well. The forum will be a dialogue between the Zen priest, Rev. Genjo Marinello, and the Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Lama Padma. This is a rare and unique opportunity to hear from leaders of both paths of Buddhism at the same time. A question and answer time will follow the dialogue.
10:30 am Service: You Can’t Save the Flower But You Can Tend the Garden
Guest speaker Rev. Genjo Marinello
Many of us feel discouraged and helpless when we see all the hunger, reckless pollution and consumption of the Earth's resources. Genjo will speak to our innately compassionate and caring nature, and the acceptance of what is without suffering expanding into how we can truly open ourselves to our lives and challenges and live with deep peace and joy, benefiting the planet and all it's creatures.
